Newmarket is not inside Forest City. The town, the Heath, the gallops and the stud land around it sit outside the proposed area, and nothing in the plan builds on any of it.
What Newmarket does get from the plan: the double-tracking of the Cambridge–Newmarket line, removing the single-track bottleneck that has constrained the town's rail service for decades, and Felixstowe freight moved off the A14.
Racing has been in Newmarket for 350 years. It will still be there in 350 more. We'd quite like a day at the July Course to be a tram-and-train journey for a million new racegoers.
